Curriculum and Activities

St. Lavere’s Preparatory School is committed to achieving academic excellence and continuing to make school a place children enjoy.  We utilize the entire year to bring different avenues of learning to the students.  There are intercession breaks of “enrichment” weeks interspersed throughout the calendar year in which the children are exposed to subjects that are not traditionally taught during the academic sessions.  For example, etiquette is taught during one of our enrichment weeks.  This extended year allows children to retain material and better enable them to make a smooth transition from one level of learning to the next.

During the summer, learning is accomplished around themes, making the learning experience, not only an educational endeavor, but also a fun-filled event.   St. Lavere’s summer is approximately ten weeks long, doors open at 8:30 a.m. and close 5:00 p.m.  There are visits to art local libraries, museums and theme parks (catering to the educational process).

Music, dance, theatre arts, and community programs also engage children’s interest.  These extra-curricular activities and social interactions not only help to make school an enjoyable place to be, but also contribute to academic success.

Enrichment weeks are optional.  Students may participate in some and not in others, depending on family vacation and holiday plans.

Physical education is an important part of the curriculum at St. Lavere’s.  Our play area has been designed with the finest, safest equipment available.  The Sanford campus features a variety of activities such as volleyball, basketball and racquetball.  Physical education teachers not only help each child develop proper hand eye coordination and physical fitness but they instill importance of good sportsmanship, teamwork, and character.

It is in our future plans to equip every campus with built-in swimming pools specially engineered and built for young people. Part of the curriculum for every summer student is the mastery of swimming and understanding water safety.  Swimming instructions are provided for every student.  Swimming instructions are specifically to teach the fundamentals.

Computer classes are taught to help children get a head start on the ever-changing technology in today’s world.

Every campus contains a library filled with a vast selection of materials for learning and recreation.

Foreign language is taught to give children the benefit of understanding other languages and cultures.

St. Lavere’s practices no form of discrimination.  Students are admitted without regard to race, color, religion and national origin.  All facilities on all campuses are open to everyone.  Academic and recreational programs are subject to change when, in our opinion, the interests of the children will best be served.
